20th July 2020 - 21:41

After carefully assessing the government guidance on safety measures, we have decided that we will be ready to safely re-open on THURSDAY 23RD JULY, and our Kitchen will reopen slightly later on Sunday for Lunches.

To ensure The Black Star can be as safe and COVID-Secure as possible for our Staff and Customers we have implemented the following safety measures:

- There will be hand sanitizer on entrance, around the pub and next to the doors in each of the toilets.

- All touch points including tables, chairs, surfaces will regularly be sanitized.

Social Distancing

- No standing at the bar unless you are queuing/waiting to be served to a maximum of 2 people each side.

- We will be limiting the number of customers in the pub at one time and each table will have a clearly marked maximum seating capacity.

- Standing will not be permitted in the bar OR garden.

We will also log your name and number upon entry as per government requirements for NHS Track and Trace.

We look forward to welcoming you all back to The Black Star in a safe and COVID-Secure manner.

This is our stance,

Update about us opening, after much discussion and debate.

As we are a small independent pub we have needed to wait until government guidance has come out to ensure that we open correctly first time round. This would help us avoid unnessary cost as well as ensuring the safety of our staff and customers.

Therefore we will NOT be opening on the 4th July, we will be waiting for a number of reasons:

  • Gives time for the ‘mad rush’ back to the pubs to happen

  • We can learn from the big corporate chains to ensure we get it right first time

  • Gives us time to put in place the necessary safety measures required such as risk assessments, sanitising stations, table service, staff training, space planning, COVID safe toilets

  • We are also hoping the table service will be dropped allowing us to reopen as proper pub

We hope you all understand our reasoning behind us not opening straight away. It is not an easy decision to make but one we feel is best. We will of course keep you all informed, we thank you for your continued support and hope to see all your faces soon.

To all our customers,

As many have you have probably heard it looks like the government will be giving bars and restaurants the green light to open on the 4th of July with restrictions in place to help protect people .

Just for the record we will NOT be opening on this day as we cannot see how we can keep people a minimum of a metre apart at all times inside outside and in the toilets it’s just not possible for us to monitor this.

What we will be doing is monitoring others and see how it goes and maybe we will open a week later or a month later who knows but obviously when we do this will not be starting with Live Music as again it’s going to be hard finding bands that all live in the same household .

To be honest financially we could really do with opening as could many others but we shall not be doing this straight away, we will however keep you informed as to what we decide to do.

Please all stay safe and be sensible.

To all our customers,

It is with a heavy heart with the severity of the outbreak increasing we have taken the decision that our doors will be closing tonight at 11pm until further notice.

We no longer feel that keeping the pub open is the right thing to do as we will be contributing to the crisis.

Please listen to the advice from the government and the World Health Organisation and please please stay safe.

Thankyou all so much for the support you have all shown us over the past 5 years

Andy, Maria and all the staff at The Star
